About the inaugural meeting
The "Genetics of Maize Disease Workshop 2011" will be held in Raleigh, February 20-23, 2011 at the recently-built Renaissance Raleigh North Hills Hotel. The workshop, which will be hosted by North Carolina State University, is designed to promote collaboration among scientists in the academic, government and private sectors in the area of the genetics of corn disease control and pathogenesis. This will be the first meeting in recent memory of scientists from public and private sectors working in this field.

Inaugural meeting format
The format and timing of the meeting will facilitate the formation of teams of university and industry scientists to carry out collaborative research projects and to compete for funding from the USDA/AFRI grants programs and other related agencies. The Workshop format will include keynote speakers, oral papers and posters. Ample time for discussion during workshop and poster sessions and the social events will allow many opportunities for exchange of ideas and information. The initial response from the research community has been extremely positive and we anticipate having approximately 80 attendees. We expect representation from New York, Indiana, Texas, Arkansas, Kentucky, Georgia, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Maryland, Minnesota, and a large group from NC.
